So, yesterday, I discovered that Richard D. James has been releasing new music under his old moniker AFX for several years now: a series of vinyl-only releases called Analord. Also, there's a "best of Analord" CD out now called Chosen Lords. of course, the second I heard about this, I knew I had to have it.

Well, let's put it this way: after the absolutely waste of time and space that was Drukqs, I didn't think Herr James could do worse. Anything he put out subsequently would have to be better than Drukqs--and the Analord tracks sure as hell are. As a whole, they're not very experimental or, really, all that creative: many of them are repetitive and feature surprisingly simple beats. But they all have that unique Richard D. James circuitbent sound, and they are all very listenable and enjoyable. I've never been a big fan of "acid" techno, but if the Analord works are regarded as that, then acid techno is cool with me!

There really isn't much to say about these works. They aren't brilliant. But they're very good. And a lot of fun.
