Our Hero, the Man Who Will Save Us All...isn't really that heroic. He's just been raised from birth to believe that's what he will be. The novel, thus, is a long, and progressive disillusionment. Or is it?

Mind you, all this is made even worse by the fact that he has a strange mutating illness rather like Proteus syndrome. You know, what Joseph Merrick had.

You all knew I was going to work some form of deformity or other into this, didn't you? This thing is shaping up to be a real carnival of grotesquery!

Ah, yes: Another brief addition to the world. The Encarnadine routinely use weapons made of bone carved out of deep bone mines in the World's flesh. The Cutaneous Nations, though, believing that all such invasions of the World's corpus to be unholy, only use weapons made of Metal...and the only source of Metal on the entire World is the Scar--a godawful wound in the planet caused by the crash of a big chunk of Metal from the sky, which the Cutaneans have been cutting from the infected scar tissue for decades now. Getting Metal out of the Scar is no easy task, as the Scar is a war zone in and of itself: White Surgeons continually surfacing to battle the weird, semi-sentient infections that spawn in the deep, infected tissue.

Eeeeeeeewwwwww.

Now, to sleep.
