oneirophrenia: (Ghostbusters!)
Last night, I acquired Mi-Sex's "greatest hits" collection covering their output from 1979 through 1985, the last year they were really active (though I believe they put out a single of remixes of their big hit "Computer Games" in, like, 1987), and have been listening to it nonstop. This Aussie band's later output sounds a lot like Icehouse (another band from Down Under), though with a snottier punk edge to it, but their earlier stuff is straight-up synth-heavy postpunk. Totally. Fucking. Awesome. But sitting here listening to this, I get to wondering:

WHY THE HELL DOESN'T MORE MUSIC THESE DAYS SOUND THIS GOOD?!?!

Thank the gods for The Bravery, VHS or Beta, The Faint, and all the other completely awesome Newer Wave bands keeping the flame alive, or I literally would listen to nothing but old country, bluegrass, and IDM.

And another thought occurrs: Every band to come out of the Subcontinent in the 1980s was fucking amazing. Men at Work. INXS. Mi-Sex and Icehouse. Midnight Friggin' Oil. WHAT HAPPENED?! Where are all the awesome new Australian bands? If anyone knows of some good Aussie Newer Wave, let a homeboy know.
