We all know that I almost never have a kind word to say about Christianity, and frequently post links to articles detailing just how fucking stupid Christians can, at times, be. And we also know that, on the other hand, I have a MUCH higher opinion of Judaism--Judaism being, ultimately, the only Big Three religion that actually splits the difference between tradition and progressiveness and thereby remains completely relevant to the world today (not to mention being the religion of choice amongst almost every one of my scientific heroes).

But even Jews can do goofy, dumbshit things sometime. Witness this story: New Credit Card for Jews won't work on the Sabbath.

The gist: A bank in Israel, in tandem with an ultra-conservative group of Jewish leaders, have created a credit card that 1) won't function at all on the Sabbath; and 2) won't work at any other time in stores that don't honor the Sabbath according to Mosaic law.

Once again, ultra-conservativism steps right up with a big ol' grin on its face when the Stupidity Roll Call is being announced.

The idea may be ridiculous, but I'm still going to give the bank that came up with the idea Mad Props for cashing in so perfectly on an obvious niche market.
