Ahhhhh, the bliss of a fairly-uneventful weekend! Sure, I could have spent the entire weekend grading papers (which I am currently finishing up right now), working on new NYARLATHOTEP stuff (which is 99.9% done anyway), and perhaps Saving the World(tm)...but instead, I spent Friday evening over at [livejournal.com profile] inmostlight's place playing Cranium and Saturday wandering about town with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] raincrystal. Now, here're the details:

Cranium is such a fun game. Definitely a dual-hemisphere game that taxes most aspects of human knowledge and/or ability, but does so in a very fun manner involving trivia questions, charades, drawing stuff a la the late, lamented Win Lose or Draw, spelling and word games, and--best of all--SCULPTING WITH PLAY-DOH! I learned the following things by playing this game: [livejournal.com profile] beeporama is a great actor. [livejournal.com profile] inmostlight and [livejournal.com profile] kashmira17, and [livejournal.com profile] bedlamboy and [livejournal.com profile] ancilla apparently share this weird psychic bond amongst their respective couple-units...because how else can one explain the means by which Tamara could guess that Eamon was drawing a palm tree just by looking at the LONG, THIN, ANONYMOUS RECTANGLE he drew in about one second?! And, finally, I've really missed board-game nights at Adam's place. It was nice getting caught up with old friends I've, unfortunately, become rather detached from of late....This is a situation which shall be rectified in the near future.

Saturday, I spent most of the day with [livejournal.com profile] raincrystal, and, as always, despite my best efforts to restrain the Chaos Index of the day, wackiness inevitably intruded in many forms. THe worst of them being the incident of me locking my keys in my car while they were in the friggin' ignition down at Riverview Park on the South Side! This was but a minor issue, ultimately, since I just called Triple-A and by the time they arrived Marie and I had spent some time walking around the Park, which was prettymuch what we'd intended to do anyway. Tooled about the Southside later with [livejournal.com profile] alternakittyn and Andrey, then met [livejournal.com profile] illusion_of_joy at the Tuscany Cafe, home of the World's Greatest Coffee/Cup o' Tea, and talked about music releases, the wonderful world of college radio, and psychotic people who must be savagely messed-with over AIM.

Best part of the day, though, was repairing back to Marie's after dinner at the Indian Oven on Murray Ave. (yum, yum, gimme some--2nd best Indian food in Pittsburgh: the tandoori chicken is TO DIE FOR) to watch Ghostbusters. Now, here's the craziness: Marie had never seen Ghostbusters before!!!! Yeah...don't ask me--I couldn't believe it either. But this situation is now rectified, and, as usual, she impressed me with her perspicacity by realizing that I am an amalgamation of all the Ghostbusters at once rather than being an incarnation of only one particular character. She fell asleep in the middle of it, which meant we had to watch most of it again, but this is most definitely not a bad proposition since we all know how obsessed I am with the film to begin with.

After that, we spent some time reading one another's fiction--Marie's grasp of dialogue and pacing is so many lightyears beyond my own I've decided to stick with primarily dialogue-less stories in the vein of Thomas Ligotti's soliloquy-like works or HPL's huge, descriptive narratives--and selecting the poems that she would like to include in her forthcoming anthology. (Note to self: Get pricing estimates at Stefano's tomorrow.) I don't give two shits and a fuck what the New Critics say: you can truly get a feel for a person by reading what they've written....A lot of the inner person shines through in prose--which does not, of course, mean that prose is a direct feed into a person's mind...because if so, then my stories all prettymuch prove that I am a non-human, possibly alien serial killer with an unimaginable hatred of all women named "Jennifer" (with the notable exception of [livejournal.com profile] dorothymonkey, who is a truly wonderful credit to the name and prettymuch proves that all generalizations are, ultimately, bullshit).

Aaaaaaaaaanyway, I've got a great deal to accomplish yet today--some more grading, another class, ads at the newspaper, three or four songs to finish, three or four stories to finish--plus I'm starving, so off I go to Wendy's for my daily input of preservatives and fakement, without which I would no doubt shrivel up and immediately die.
