The Birthday Massacre
Dec. 22nd, 2004 01:56 pmis now officially my favorite goth-rock band of the 2000s. Many, many thanks to
siliconedreamer for pointing them out to me originally....
I now have all of their available work, and, jayzus, is it amazing. Like a cross between the Sisters of Mercy and Malice Mizer...or maybe Poirrot. At any rate, they may look like a Marilyn Manson cover band, but their music is so unbelievably kick-ass it's amazing they aren't regarded as the premier new goth-rock band in the world now. They manage to combine all the best elements of New Wave, oldskool Goth, visual kei, synthpop, industrial, and glam into a package that honestly, the more I think about it, reminds me of a much darker, female-fronted Duran Duran.
Check out their website for more luv:
http://www.nothingandnowhere.com (incredbly beautiful Flash site with killer bunny!)
Recommended songs for download if you wanna check 'em out are:
Horror Show (a COMPLETE Jam)
Video Kid (like Zeromancer mated with Switchblade Symphony...only without Tina Root's annoying whine)
Play Dead (just flatout great)
Red (rockamaroll!)
Why these guys aren't getting played at Ceremony ten or twelve times a night I will never know....
