Tha Return of Tha Ol'skool
Dec. 30th, 2003 02:02 amToday was a seriously surprising, seriously revivifying day. Many elements of my past that I thought dried up and blown away came back today in even better, stronger form, and I must say that I now find myself looking upon the approaching new year with slightly less terror and trepidation than before.
First of all, my appologies to
gwenix and
deviant_1 for not meeting them at Pechin's today. I didn't even wake up until one, and I was still feeling quite worn down until later today. Hell, Jeff, I didn't even get your message on my voicemail until almost three....My wagon was seriously draggin'--and still is, for that matter, if a little more buoyantly now.
About three-thirty the ol' cellphone rang and, lord of hosts, who might it be but
gidget0 calling from our old mutual homeboy Smokey Joe's place! Seems ol' Jon has returned to the southwestern quadrant here after having no luck finding a job and stuff in Seattle....I left for work a little early and took my plagued ass over there to see Jon, Joe's wife Julie and son Andrew (who is now three! Holy shite, last time I remember seeing him he was barely one), and Joe's parents--but not Joe, because he wouldn't be getting home from work until 6:30, by which time I would be at work. Anyway, long story short: Jon and Joe and I are going to get the old jamming posse together again, break out the analogs and the bass, and just get wicked in that oldtime way. It's going to be a fucking blast. Hell, just the thought alone is making me feel better already!
And just the day before, I'd run into an old, old friend of mine from Penn State--a girl I'd gone to class with there, waaaaaaaaay back in the day--at WalMart. She's living in Uniontown now, working for PennDOT, and just chilling out. I got her cellphone number so I guess she and I will do some catching up and hanging out and shite in the near future.
You have no idea how good it feels to hang out again with old friends you've lost contact with.
I have also come to the conclusion that this universe, which I am currently living in, is the universe--and that somehow, I survived the creation and demise of a Tangent Universe that spanned the time November 2001 to August 2003. Thank the gods. Now I can resume my normal life.
