Well, Memorial Day Weekend was fun this year--as opposed to last year which, though I really don't remember specific details, I do recall as being somewhat ass-sucking. Anyway, in brief:
I was back in town by Thursday and prettymuch spent the day catching up with Vanessa--always a good thing. Friday,
siliconedreamer and I went to see Mean Girls out at...I think it's Northway Mall--that place on McKnight Road right behind the Borders. Let me tell you folks something: Pegritz (and aRvin, for that matter) digs on teenybopper movies like no others. And, man, was Mean Girls entertaining...mainly because Tina Fey (of Saturday Night Live fame) wrote it. What a bitter attack on highschool girl drama! It got a little preachy every now and again, but...hey, it was fun, very hysterical, and--I'll admit it--Lindsay Lohan is so goddamned cute I could just drool on her shoes. And, yes, I know she's a Museum Girl, but I can still look, right? I can't wait for the day she makes the jump from teenybopper comedies to teenybopper horror flicks.
Saturday was the Skinny Puppy release party at Ceremony. aRvin was DJing and, as always, when aRvin DJs the place goes fucking berzerk! It was so cool: not only was my boy kickin' out the jams (including the Strong Bad Techno mix that never fails to rock the party), but this random group of plastic-looking Cool Kids showed up and never left the dancefloor. I've never in my life seen girls and boys who look like they fell out of an Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue shaking their buts to the Strong Bad Techno and fucking Kraftwerk and everything before....It was totally surreal but, at the same time, a brilliant commentary on aRvin's skills as a DJ. I haven't seen Ceremony that fucking packed in ages.
The only bad thing about Saturday night was that I got hit by a serious migraine...which I thought, at first, was just going to be a slight sinus headache, but then it took flight. However! I don't know how Vanessa did it, but somehow she gave me a back/neck-rub that literally made the agony stop in its tracks. She would dig her fingers into my spine and the sides of my skull and the pain just...stopped. Like a switch was thrown. She's just...amazing. In every way possible.
Anyway, Sunday, Vanessa and I came back to my place outside of Uniontown to spend time together in the quiet of Nowhereland. It was very, very nice--we watched Phantasm (sort-of), and sat on the porch talking, and just enjoying one another's company. It was very beautiful, and very relaxing--which is just what Vanessa needed, since she's been under a bit of pressure lately. I felt good that I could take her away from things for a bit, and let her unwind....She actually got to meet my crazy old mother, too, which was a little awkward--but, then again, my mother's been under a good bit of pressure herself lately: her brother, my ultra-cool uncle (the ex-DC cop) that I always talk about is having some trouble with potentially cancerous doings lately, and I know she's been worried about that and it's made her even weirder than usual. But it went a lot better than expected!
Monday, I took Vanessa on a brief tour of my locale and Uniontown, and we had dinner at the China Wok Buffet--the Chinese place I always go to here in Uniontown. So yummy. After that, we stopped in at the newspaper so that I could show Vanessa where I spend my time reading and talking to her and getting paid to do it. :) Also swung by Penn State Fayette, but when the campus is closed there really isn't anything to see but the buildings. Anyway, we saw The Day After Tomorrow, which was a surprisingly good film--more on that later--and then I took Vanessa home, spent more time with her there, and then just rolled on back to my joint to throw some stuff on the laptop and get things ready for work, since I'll be doing stuff out at Penn State this week too, hopefully, with those two students I need to help with the deferred grades.
Anyway, one final note. We all know that my mother's a crotchety old freak who dislikes everyone--especially anyone I date. When I checked in on her today, I was fully expecting to hear her bitching and moaning because--gods forbid!--I'm dating a non-Catholic! BUT! Amazingly enough...she's being totally cool about everything. I am seriously amazed. But, hey, it's all good. :)

Date: 2004-06-01 08:19 pm (UTC)Is that Chinese place the new one by Gabe's? Pretty damn good for Uniontown, although I'd REALLY liked the Mexican place that was there...
