A terrifying realization.
Dec. 14th, 2004 09:47 pmI think my body just can't handle caffeine anymore.
Over the past week-and-so-many days, I've been troubled with constant headaches. I usually wake up fine, and am okay for a while...but the second I get moving, the thudding and the eye-gouging pain begin. This is obviously a sign of a sinus infection that I need to get treated SOON, as in tomorrow....I've been feeling it coming on for weeks now, and I hoped and preyed to the Other Gods that it would just fix itself and save me the trouble and money of going to the doctor's, but no such luck: I think it's actually getting worse.
The thing is, though: whenever I drink anything even vaguely caffeinated, such as green tea at dinner, my head really begins to ache shortly thereafter. And if I don't have a headache at all but suck down a bit o' caffeine just to help me wake up, I will almost immediately start feeling the bulging sensation behind my eyes. My blood pressure is fine...everything else is fine save the sinus infection, which is annoying but tolerable...but, apparently, I just can't drink caffeine anymore without it making my head hurt.
We'll see how this goes after I eat a few pounds of antibiotics over the next week, but I fear the worst: my body has begun to reject one of the last few chemical pleasures it would still accept.
I can't drink booze anymore because it tears my stomach to pieces and I literally have to eat a bottle of Tums to settle it afterwards.
I can't smoke anymore (not that I ever really did that all too much anyway) because if I even smell cigarette smoke now I start coughing up my lungs in gelatinous chunks.
Now...if I can't swill caffeine by the gallons like I used to, what's left? Vicodin? Shit, I only take that when my knees or my shoulder hurts me and I take more than one pill per week it makes me feel all nauseous and dumb.
Goddamnit, Huey Lewis, where are you now? I NEED A NEW DRUG! One that won't makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you, caffeine.

Date: 2004-12-15 03:12 am (UTC)If you're pretty sure it's caffeine, though, then maybe you won't have to go through the elaborate ritual. But if you put sugar or milk in your coffee and tea, the perhaps it's one of those, or some combination that's setting you off.
I hope you're feeling better soon.
