oneirophrenia | Batman Beginneth

Oh, sweet Jayzus, that movie was fucking awesome. I'll post a more in-depth Pegritz.com review of it tomorrow, but let's just say this about it:

I didn't think anything could ever top Tim Burton's classic Batman....I mean, Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Nuff sed. But Batman Begins comes very, very, very close to nudging it out of the prime spotlight--mainly because it's so incredibly realistic, and details the actual beginning of Batman. It's also a much more philosophical, and intricate, film than Burton's: Bruce Wayne is presented in a much richer light in the new film, and none of the villains are cardboard cut-outs or overly "comic booky"--the Scarecrow shares more with Nightbreed's mad doctor than some day-glo freak clad in a goofy costume. Ra's al Ghul is the perfect film villain, as well, and his interaction with Christian Bale's Wayne is surprisingly poignant. And speaking of Bale...gods love the man, he is Bruce Wayne--he played the character to a T.

In fact, all of the film's performances are amazingly strong, especially Gary Oldman as Gordon and Michael Caine as Alfred. Well...I take that back: Mrs. Tom Cruise's performance wasn't all that great, but so what? Look who she was surrounded by!

All in all...an amazing film.

I really want to be a superhero now. Like, seriously....I could be PEGRITZ!, the world's loudest idiot--but I wouldn't fight crime, I'd just run around and do goofy shit and confuse both criminal and law-abiding citizen alike with my confusion-inducing antics.
