The "new" H.I.M. album, Dark Light, is fucking awesome. Best goddamned goth-rock I've heard in ages. It's poppy, it's bouncy, it's lugubrious, it's silly...but it's so much fun to jam to when you're grading stuff. Lyrics are still no different than the heartwrenching suicidal pleas of a morbidly-depressed 14-year-old Goth girl who reads waaaaaaaaaaaay too much Poe, but you've got to admit: the formula works. "Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly" is my new jam. In fact, in honor of the song, I've stapled the back of my left hand to my forehead and I've got a dead rose hanging upside down from the corner of my desk.

I need new goth icons for LJ, too.
