Wow, am I fucked.
Oct. 31st, 2005 02:24 pmBest Buy can't do anything for my computer, since I couldn't afford their customer care plan. So I contacted Sony, since the machine is still under warranty. I would need to ship it to California and it would be gone about six weeks. All parts and labor would be covered...but I'd still have to pay for shipping--which is about $120 each way (with insurance to make sure it doesn't get fucked up in transit). So it would still cost me $240, basically, to have the motherfucker fixed.
So I just bought a new SATA drive (only 100gb, alas) at Staples for $60 and took it down to my homeboys at Laurel Computer Systems in Uniontown. I could easily replace the drive myself, mind you, but I want them to check the entire machine out to be certain it's the hard-drive and not something else. If it's something else, then I guess I will have to ship the goddamned thing to Sony. I'm hoping it's just that drive, though, as with the cost of the drive and labor, I won't be paying more than $100 to get the thing fixed and I'll have it back in a day or two.
Then, of course, I get to spend the next eight days loading all my software and data back onto the bitch.
Also, Cal U apparently isn't hiring me back for the Spring. And Penn State has almost nothing to offer. I have been told, however, that since PSU Fayette now has an English major, I'll probably end up teaching horror lit and fantasy lit there next Fall--if not sooner. But still...looks like come January I have to find a "real" job. Yay. Now I can enjoy the wonders of sending out 200+ resumes and never getting a single response again.
Luckily, I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Which means a new Vicodin prescription (and just in time: I've finally run out, and quite frankly I feel like shit today). I think this time I'm just going to eat the entire bottle in one sitting.
