Confessions of a Dance Floor
Nov. 19th, 2005 01:02 pmMadonna's new album, Confessions of a Dance Floor, is REALLY FREAKIN' GOOD. It's basically just a collection of propulsive dancefloor jams, and as such is a bit repetitive (everything's prettymuch 125-130bpm straight through), but DAMN is it fun and well-produced! Quite frankly, it rivals a number of her older albums in terms of enjoyability--there are elements of Ray of Light all over this one, as well as little sonic nods to previous hits like "Papa Don't Preach" and "Material Girl"--and it completely overcomes the abject shittiness of her last two albums.
The lead single track "Hung Up" is a good booty-shakin' jam, but it's totally outstripped by "Sorry" and "Let It Be."
The other day I was complaining that there just wasn't enough decent synthpop around anymore...but what with Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel and now this new offering from Madonna, it seems like the tide is turning around. Good! I expect to hear this stuff played more often at Ceremony so maybe I can get my groove on again.
