oneirophrenia | More Laptop Wireless Bullshit

Nothing I do seems to work here. I reinstalled the OS completely sans SP2, and the same old shit prevailed: I can access my home network just fine, but can't do shit anywhere else. Then I wiped that and reinstalled all the original factory settings from the restore disk that came with the laptop. Same thing.

Somehow, no matter what I do, what OS is running, or what hardware I use...I can only access my home network via wireless, and none other.

Everything was fine until about a month ago.

I am completely at a loss here. Worse, today I stopped in at Laurel Computer Systems to see if any of the fellows there (they are prettymuch the only people in Fayette County who understand the first thing about wireless networking) could help me with this...and even THEY were completely stumped.

I don't know if something has gone bad or wonky in my laptop or what, but...prettymuch the only reason I bought this sonofabitch was so that I could do my schoolwork and research work away from home, at the campus or elsewhere. As it now stands, I can obvious still write on it, record grades, manage my schedule, and even do music with it--but I can't do anything online, and that seriously hampers my ability to get anything official done school-wise and whatnot. So, in other words, my laptop has gone from being 100% useful to only about 40% useful.

And NO ONE has even the beginnings of a clue why.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think I should sell this one, too, because honestly no one can figure out what's wrong with it--apparently, the fucking Pegritz Laptop Curse has struck again--and it just doesn't do what I need it to do anymore.

It's only a few months old...maybe I can score ~$1,000 for it. I'd even let it go for around $800, if someone needs a really powerful machine but doesn't give a shit about any kind of internet access, wired or otherwise. With that I could guess I could afford a fairly cheap, fairly lame Acer notepad computer with a touchscreen. It won't be able to do ANY music or ANY kind of digital image editing or webdesign, and it has a TINY 10" screen...but it's cheap, and at least I'll be able to run the usual Office stuff and keep up with my class work with it. I guess for under $1000 that's all I can ask for. Beggars can't be choosers, and I am SICK of spending so much fucking money on hardware that never seems to work right.

Or, alternately, I could just get another, better desktop and say fuck the whole laptop thing permanently. Worse comes to worse, I can always just use the PSU wired network as I am right now, and otherwise never leave the house or just bring my goddamned desktop with me like I used to when I lived on the South Side.

Fuck. That's all I can say anymore about this shit: fuck.
