Circling Overland (the Vulture Remix)
Apr. 12th, 2005 02:35 pmOK. This is getting a little disturbing. Remember last week when I spotted a couple turkey buzzards circling over my house? Well...today, when I got back from Penn State, what did I just see? Three of them perched on the gables of my house. They took off as soon as they saw me and took to circling. I wandered around my yard to be sure there wasn't something conveniently dead lying around to attract them, but didn't find anything at all that could possibly attract the attention of airborn scavengers/harbingers of doom. Yeah...I guess it's technically Goth As Hell(tm) to have vultures chilling on the roof of your house, but at the same time it's also pretty goddamned creepy. No wonder I've been feeling off of my game lately. Heh.
Maybe the vultures are just hanging around waiting for me to kick over...which, the way I've been feeling lately, might be sooner than I'd like. I don't have ANY idea why, but for the past week and a half my entire body has been aching like hell--nothing new and unusual, mind you, just the bursitic shoulders and the arthritic knees and hips. The thing is: I usually get one limb troubling me at a time, not everything at once, and you'd think now that the weather has improved so drastically I wouldn't be feeling as stiff as a 70-year-old. But, the opposite obtains, for some unknown reason. And the worst thing is...Tylenol doesn't work anymore. It helps the stiffness (as does Relafen, an anti-imflammatory which I've been taking everyday), but doesn't do anything for the creaking and the aching. Only Vicodin helps that, and I've run out of that.
I made an appointment with my doctor to get this checked out, because, like I said, I'm not used to being in this much completely-pointless pain (I haven't been lifting heavy objects like dead bodies, swinging from chandeliers, or rolling down concrete stairs...so there's no reason to have aggravated the ol' joints)--but the appointment isn't until a week from today. I tried to make an appointment at a local medical center to get this checked out and dealt with sooner, but my insurance (which I only have for another week or two, anyway) wouldn't cover it and I can't afford to pay a full $70 for a ten-minute check-up. Besides, the people at Health First seem to be a little overly free with the oxycontin--they'll prescribe that shit for a friggin' stubbed toe, or so I've heard--and 1) I can't afford that crap; and 2) it's 100,000 times more powerful than I need. The only painkiller stronger than Tylenol I can take is Vicodin: Percocets make me sick, I'm allergic to ibuprofen and its derivatives, and NSAIDs just don't do anything for me. I also need a prescription for more Relafen, because that stuff does help--it just doesn't really do much for pain.
So...looks like for the next week, I get to enjoy feeling like I'm 90 again. I'll probably wake up with a pair of vultures on my windowsill tomorrow.
