Hmmm. Lesbians are always cool. Russian lesbians are even cooler. TEENAGE Russian lesbians are incredibly cool. Especially if you are a filthy, toothless old English teacher like myself. Mind you, that's why I liked Tatu's first album so much: it was nothing but european electro-fluff about teenage Russians lesbians and, my gods, how can you NOT love that simply for its unadulterated smarmy brilliance?

I later found out a lot of the album was produced by Trevor Horn. Yes, that Trevor Horn, from the Buggles, the Art of Noise, and, for a little while, Yes. The same homeboy who produced all of the music for Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Seal. No WONDER I still liked Tatu even after the guilty pleasure of teenage Russian liesbianity wore off.

Now Tatu's got a new album coming out, Dangerous and Moving. I just, ahem, got it--and it's fucking GOOD. It makes their first album truly look like total fluff. This album is well-produced, well-sung, and really fucking pretty.

Ohyeah, and I guess their still teenage Russian lesbians, but...you know, it really doesn't matter now: the music is good enough to stand on its own. "All About Us" is my freakin' JAM(tm) and, from what I can tell, is lyrically almost exactly the same as "All the Things She Said": Hi, we're teenage Russian lesbians and we want to run away so that we can carry on our illicit love. But it's just a good song.

ADDENDUM: According to their website, the new album features work by Sting (on bass), Richard Carpenter--yes, Karen Carpenter's brother, and Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics. No wonder the album has a pronounced 80's-electropop feel.

Oh, neat! Thanks for letting me know about this, and furthermore letting me know that it's actually worth buying: second albums by gimmickish bands rarely are, but I do admit having a soft spot for 200Km/h In The Fast Lane.

i thought the new album sounded EXACTLY like the first one. which isn't necessarily a bad thing... but i swear half the songs are ripped directly from the first album with some new words.
