We all know I'm not a big fan of organized religion--Christianity in particular. And yet, you will notice that I really never have much to say about the Roman Catholic Church...except for when they drop the ball time and time again dealing with pedophile priests. However, that's really the only thing I ever have to criticize concerning the Church of Rome.

Of all the big denominations of Christianity, I think Roman Catholicism is one of the few that really have their act together...for the most part. Consider their stand on science. Here's a very telling quote:

A Vatican cardinal said Thursday the faithful should listen to what secular modern science has to offer, warning that religion risks turning into "fundamentalism" if it ignores scientific reason.

Of course, he says the dialogue goes two ways: science needs to pay attention to religion, too, lest it become a form of fundamentalism in itself--but no matter how you look at it, the Church's stand toward the sciences and technology is, generally, really quite admirable. Hell, the only organized religion that has a better track record of producing excellent scientists is Judaism.

Dude, hang on now.

Maybe we can research some other services here before you go selling off a kidney and all your worldly posessions.

I'll see what I can do--you try the freezing trick>

Prettymuch every data-recovery place I checked out is offering the roughly same prices--and, best of all, DriveSavers is the only place willing to give me a discount because a friend of mine referred me to them. They're definitely not the cheapest, but they're the only place I've checked out that will take less than a month or two to get stuff back to me. There isn't much sensitive or time-constrained data on there, but some of my grade backups are on that drive and I NEED them by the first week of December or I might as well just give everyone A's since I won't be able to tell what they made.

Of course I'm not serious, you wenis! :) It just so happens that a lot of famous scientists and inventors were Jews and Catholics--there really isn't any causal connection between the two (except for, possibly, the fact that many Jewish and Catholic people value education highly, but that's not something *unique* to Jewish and Catholic families).

The catholic church is also kept in check by the Jesuit Order, which specifically has the mission of education and science. So, really, in that whole area of being reasonable about learning and stuff, they do ok.
