Sony Rootkit Detection and Elimination Methods

Just In Case....If you fear you may be infexted with the XCP2 rootkit or whatever the hell it's being called today, check out this site.

Here you can find convenient instructions on how to identify if your Windows machine is infected with the rootkit. Sorry, Mac, folks--this detection method's for Windows machines only, but as soon as EFF or someone puts up instructions on how to check for yourselves, I'll post that, too. Provided, of course, you haven't found it already yourselves, which is highly likely. :)

I'm a paranoid fuck, and my computer is made by Sony...so, of course, I checked the second I found this page. Clean as a whistle. *Whew*

Just checked...mine is clean too. This whole DRM crap makes me not want to buy recorded music on major labels anymore. Hell, the stupid FBI warnings alone make me want to hurl CD cases through windows.

Oh, man, tell me about it....I've sworn off major-label CDs mainly because of idiotic stuff like this. That's why I'm firmly committed to the Creative Commons ideal: there will never EVER be an HPL Laboratories mp3 or CD that a user or buyer can't do anything he/she/it damnwell pleases with it!

I'm generally not much of an idealist--in fact, I tend to HATE idealists--but some causes are worth contributing to and fighting for just because they make *sense.* They're worthwhile in a very real, everyday kind of fashion!
