Holy crap! Qubits for YOU!
Dec. 18th, 2005 11:35 amA fellow at the University of Michigan's Trapped Ion Quantum Computing facility, Christopher Monroe, has produced a model processor using trapped ions in a semiconductor chip that can perform quantum computations. The model is scalable for mass production.
Mass production.
Of quantum computing devices.
Yes, they're only a handful of qubits--not even a qubyte, I believe--but this is a very solid start on the road to serious quantum computing.
I'm already planning exactly what regions of my cortex and deep brain I plan to lace up with quantum chips.
