In today's Why-The-Fuck-Would-Anyone-Bother News, apparently New Line Cinema is hip to film a prequel to Friday the 13th.
The original Friday the 13th was pretty good--not one of my favorite horror films of all time, but still decent. It at least had an actual plot. But as the above article points out, is the prequel just going to be about a retarded kid drowning because two camp counsellors were too busy gettin' it on?
I have a very marked dislike of horror "franchises." Usually the first films in these series are wonderful--A Nightmare on Elm Street and the first two Hellraisers come immediately to mind--but everything thereafter is nothing more than knock-off crap. But possibly the worst--and I do mean THE WORST--"sequel" to a classic film to ever sting my eyes was Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings. The producers of that film literally need to be shot, if they haven't been already.

Heh.
