So...while taking a break from the usual Sunday routine of papergrading and listening to Fun Lovin' Criminals, I must relate a really fresh discovery that I made a few days ago.

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] doktovox late one night, and he mentioned that he was listening to Xorcist's Nomad album, which got me to thinking: I used to love Xorcist, but rather lost track of them after Soul Reflection, which was the last Xorcist album that I actually picked up. I really loved Nomad, though, from hearing it at Alexx's place a few times--so I decided to include Xorcist on my list of older industrial/ambient/electronic acts that I've been looking up again. And whaddaya know, CyberDen is still around, and so is the Xorcist homepage!

The most interesting thing about the site is that it not only provides a complete discography of Xorcist releases--including exclusive comp appearances--as well as various sideproject efforts, but also provides mp3s of every Xorcist track ever recorded (as far as I could tell)! All of those comps and albums are out-of-print, so what has Bat done with all the old stuff? Made it available to all--for FREE...although donations are encouraged, and I for one highly encourage even the smallest donation because, hell, it takes a lot of dedication to one's music to put up everything for download, and high-quality music always deserves to be supported in some way. I'm just waiting for my current paycheck to hit my hands, and I'm gonna send the man some phat cash for all those comp tracks and for Nomad and Insects & Angels, the two albums I've always wanted yet have never managed (or remembered, sadly) to pick up.

Those later Xorcist albums are so good. Wonderful melodic ambient with lots of interesting beats, lush choirs and pads, and excellent song structures that can oftimes be both harsh and beautiful, like a photo of a rusted butterfly. Most excellent. I loved a lot of Xorcist's early stuff--primarily the Bitches EP, which features one of my alltime favorite horror-movie-based dance songs, "Xorcist (bleeding mix)" because of all the Exorcist III samples that lace it. Come on, folks, who doesn't want to just scream "HIS PAIN WON'T END!" along with that great sample of the Gemini Killer?

Ohyeah, and [livejournal.com profile] _bat_ even has a LiveJournal, too. Small universe.
