Skinny Puppy's new album is done and has been sent off to Ken "Hiwatt" Marshall for mastering. Yeah...I know "Rave" Ogilvie isn't doing the mastering, which is sad, but Ken Marshall is a HELL of a producer, too, so I am completely and utterly down with this.

Anyway, cEvin and Nivek are looking psychotic as ever:



I think I'm gonna let my hair grow so I can get that Ogre look going at last.

I'm SO excited about this album! I loved "Optimissed" and when I saw that picture the other day I almost, well, perhaps its better not to say. The only thing that overshadows my excitement for the new Puppy album is the fact that I get to see George Romero this year.

Looking like Ogre could be seriously hazardous to your health, especially if you run into a SP obsessed female like myself.

"Optimissed" is such a great dance song--and though it's more typical of ohGr than it is of Skinny Puppy, it's still a better club anthem than anything else I've heard in quite some time. There's a different version of that song appearing on the LP, I believe, and it is supposed to be a good bit different....Can't wait to hear how they mangled it!

Haha, well if you walked around eastern PA covered in gore and dirt you would have to fear for your life for many reasons, probably the least of which being ravenous Ogre fans...
Oh - I found a bunch of Lovecraft criticism related to the Joshi stuff you recommened. Hopefully this week will be a fruitful trip to the library (even though my school library SUCKS)...

Excellent! I am glad you found some of that stuff....You know, if there is anything in particular you're looking for, I can easily photocopy it and send it out to you. Now, mind you, finding _6 Decades of Criticism_ via interlibrary loan shouldn't be very difficult--but, on the other hand, if you track down something, send the publication info to me, 'cause chances are I either have it or can get it via Penn State's library. Just lemme know.

Well, in particular I'm looking for criticism about the nature of supernatural beings in Lovecraft's world - sort of the anti-gods and evil beings that are not "balanced" by any good beings. I'm trying to drag myself through as much criticism as I can find to get the most revelent stuff, but if you can think of anything off the top of your head, let me know. And thanks! I really appreciate that :)
What do you teach at Penn State? I really want to go to grad. school there.

I teach the basic freshmen-level composition courses--not glamorous, I know, but certainly entertaining in their own way and beneficial to *all* students, not just English majors. Going to grad school at Penn State is actually not a bad idea, since the Pattee Library has the complete run of _Lovecraft Studies_ and a number of other journals that also feature a great deal of scholarly work on a wide variety of horror- and gothic-related authors. I love the fact that as a faculty member I can interlibrary loan all of that stuff for free--which, mind you, *you* could do as a student as well.

Anyway, as to your Lovecraft research: S. T. Joshi's _Lovecraft: A Life_ is a surprisingly good start for finding info on his use of paranatural beings; as are Joshi's numerous essays on the same that Hippocampus Press I believe still keep in print. I have all of them myself, so I can easily just copy them for you. Many of the articles in _6 Decades of Criticism_ cover just that subject as well, particularly Dirk Mosig's contribution, and Fritz Leiber's.

Okay, now maybe Between the Waters' album will be finished soon...it was being held up by production of this album (they were using the same studio). Not to dis SP, but I am anticipating BTW more.
