Pink Floyd hasn't been interesting for over twenty years now, I'd personally prefer that they just leave their legacy alone at this point.

Oh, I certainly didn't mean David-Gilmour-only "Pink Floyd"--I meant the entire real lineup of Roger Waters, David Gilmore, Richard Wright, and the Other Guy Whose Name I Always Forget. :) And good thing Syd Barret's dead, too, because I wouldn't want him nosing his stupid hippie "See-Emily-Play" nose into the mix, either!

I can agree with a couple of those - but ABBA?! You have to be joking.

Their last three albums have been incredibly boring and annoying. They used to be an amazing band--and when I saw them live in 2001 or 2002, they were just mindblowing--but then...Kid A? And, worse, Amnesiac? Ugh. I really did try to like those albums. I thought I just wasn't "getting" them. But...I wallow in complex, weird, avant-garde prog-rock--I love that kind of stuff. But Radiohead's last three albums have just been shapeless, inconsistent, boring...and whiny. Thom Yorke used to be able to sing. What the hell happened to him?

Radiohead needs a little love.

Seriously dude, you have totally jumped the shark in your weird music snobbery. Radiohead goes but Abba stays?

WTF ?

I really, REALLY don't like what Radiohead has become. I've actually been listening to their disco a lot lately, and I patently can't stand any of the whiny, pretentious tripe they started putting out after OK Computer. I used to like a few tracks on Hail to the Thief, but they haven't held up well at all....I truly can't believe the band that gave us "Street Spirit Fadeout" and "Karma Police" and--above all--"No Surprises" gave us Kid A and Amnesiac, which I find completely unlistenable.

They've made their mark, and they've given us some incredible tunes. But now they're done.

(Abba was kind of a joke, too--but unlike Radiohead, I consistently liked every one of their albums: they never drifted off track and started putting out goofy stuff with their later works.)

I'd like to point out your list of bands to save music:

Pink Floyd
Devo
The Comateens
Industry
Classix Nouveau
Men Without Hats
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
DEVO
Abba
Special AKA

All of whom were recording music quite some time ago as their band alter egos. Most of those bands drifted apart. I don't think I could stomach a new Pink Floyd album. And Devo? Come f'n on. Mark Mothersbaugh has been doing some really interesting sound track work over the years, why have him come back to something that his heart is not into. Grand master Flash last put out a record in 2002 that didn't make a blip. Men with out hats put something out in 1991 (I think I have a better chance of a new MBV record then those cats recording together) Comateens like MWH haven't put anything out since 1991. I could continue down this list, but the point is none of them are recording together. The chances of them coming back are slim to none, and even if they did they are so past their primes (as band collectives) that I can only imagine how boring and trite the out put would be. (See TGWOTR)

At least Radiohead is putting something out. Like it or not they are still a band. Still recording together. Still putting out something that is miles ahead of the tripe force fed to us through the pop culture machine.

I'll tell you what. I'd much pay much more money to see Radiohead now than I would Skinny Puppy.

PS this arguement really should be moot as you were listening to that God awful Lean Back song.

That song shows that Hip Hop is as dead of a genre as both Goth and Industrial.

I added you to my flist after finding you on [livejournal.com profile] mellawyrden's page - I remember you from the CRK phorum, which also led me to your CDs.

Incidentally, after just reading your list of bands that should go away, a hideous solo Thom Yorke song was played on the radio. His solo stuff is even worse than Radiohead.

Comateens

Actually, the Comateens have a new project of sorts in the works. You can friend them on Myspace, and there will be updates in the near future.
