So, my John Prine collection is damnear complete, finally. I just got Lost Dogs and Missed Blessings, which has the album versions of two of my alltime favorite Prine songs ever on it: "Lake Marie" (
raincrystal take note: you must hear this one) and "I Love You So Much It Hurts."
One of the best John Prine lyrics ever: "Many years later, we found ourselves in Canada...trying to save our marriage. Or catch a few fish. Whichever came first." The more I think about it, the more I think that, perhaps, "Lake Marie" is a bizarre sort-of sequel to John Prine's "Excitable Boy."
On a related note, too, I've discovered a new bluegrass station on iTunes internet radio tuner. It's a low-quality stream, but that doesn't really matter since a lot of the stuff they play is either taken from crappy old vinyl or from field recordings of drunken old grandpas sitting on a porch pickin' n' grinnin'. I actually like the poorer quality in this case, though: it seems to contribute to the old, backwoods feel of the music.
I need a banjo, damn it.

Date: 2004-03-22 06:25 pm (UTC)Anyway, I sort of pulled a turtle act for these past weeks, going back into my shell for some personal quiet time. I'm really such an introvert... I like being around people, but too much gets to be too much, and after the weekend of Purim, not only did I not feel like drinking (bleah, I felt so ill,) but I felt like I needed the whole world to slow down while I just curled up with a book or something.
But what I am winding up to say is, what are your plans for this weekend? I still don't feel too much into partying mode with the booze and all, but I am starting to feel like human contact is a desirable thing again. So yeah, let me know.
