Just saw it. Damn good movie. A damn good comic-book movie--because that's exactly what it was. Ron Perlman was great--Del Toro couldn't've gotten a better person to play Hellboy--as were Selma Blair and John Hurt, but honestly, the characters that I liked the most in the film were Kroenen the clockwork Nazi ninja with the surgery fetish and the Real Ultimate Power and, of course, the Ogdru Jahad.

Now go right ahead and tell me that wasn't Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, flappin' around and looking all cool there at the end!

Ooohhhhh, yes. *You* for one will lose your mind the first time you see the bloody character introduced in the opening scene....I must make a serious investment in time to actually find a few images of that character to use as icons now.

Oh, indeed! I long for the day, though, that I can trade all this messy, sticky, smelly blood for nice, shiny, stainless steel mechanics....

Hmmmm....Lipstix 'pon ME, or 'pon YOU? Either way: lovely image. ;) I'm rather partial about losing all the sticky red gunk, alas, mainly because it makes such a *horrible* lubricant for delicate gearwork. I plan on dumping all the ol' kroovy in favor of a nice, clear, silicone-based lubricant that will keep all the little wheels and springs and movements spinning spinning spinning adequately!

Not only does Perlman -look- like Tom Waits, but Hellboy himself was introduced with a Tom Waits song :)

Someday I will make sweet, sweet, surgery-accompanied love to that clockwork sandbag Nazi ninja with knives. He was kind of like a coin operated boy, just more bad ass.

OK, let's see here....Let me take a look around the Lab for a moment.

1) Surgical equipment: check.
2) Book of ninja skillz: check.
3) Clockwork machinery: check.
4) SS uniform....Well, okay, I don't have *that* one (yet).

I'll email you my address tomorrow. :) Don't forget to bring a bag of quarters, too!

(On the serious tip, though: I'll send you a reply on the grad school stuff sometime this weekend--I've been really tied up with grading and student meetings this week, so I haven't had time to actually prepare any reasonable answers for you...but the weekend is now upon us, and that makes taking the time to whip together a good set of answers much easier.)

Hmn... no SS uniform... that -may- be a problem. Maybe you have one of those stainless steel gurney tables they use at the morgue instead?

Lol, well, when you get that SS uniform and you hear the jingle-jangle of quarters coming down the street and flaming redish pinkish hair glowing on the horizon, you'll know to get out the ninja skillz and impliments of torture!
Haha :P
I'll look for an email from you this weekend about grad school and don't be afraid to take your time.

Actually, in another month, I *will* have a stainless steel morgue gurney! The Uniontown Hospital is cleaning out its basement, and there are literally *tons* of old gurneys, exam chairs, IV racks, cabinets, et cetera from the past FIFTY YEARS stuffed down there in the dark, slowly rusting....A friend of mine who works there is going to let me know when they start emptying out the keep, and I'm basically going to just back a Ryder truck up to the loading dock and stuff the damned thing with goods.

Wow.
Well if there is any way you could possibly fit an extra gurney table or a cabinet or something I would be much indebted. And I'll be up this summer to look at Penn State... *big hopeful grin*
I used to work at a morgue, but I was such a good girl that I did not take *anything*, not even a toe tag, or use anything *cough* improperly.

Oh, I think it may be more than possible to load up that Ryder truck with a few extra finds! Mind you, I have no idea where *I* am going to put most of the stuff I hife, so chances are I'll be able to score equipment for damnear everyone I know--but since you're the first to mention it, you've got first dibs. :)

And, as to working in a morgue....Wow. That must've been eerie at times! You totally should've ripped off some stuff, though. Seriously.

And it's kind of a shame that you never...you know...with a...you know....*cough ahem*

Hooray for first dibs. If you do manage to get some stuff and fit it somewhere I will, of course, be your servant for life.

And working at the morgue wasn't eerie at all, I thought it was *amazing*. I mean I go to do basically everything, except well, *cough*, you know, like you mentioned. I *should* have at least taken some toe tags, but I felt guilty enough for having all those inappropriate thoughts in the autopsy room :P
Damn my weakness for scalpels, corpses, and viscera!
