Best line from a Nine Inch Nails song ever. I'm really rather astonished by the fact that I have never once--too my knowledge, at least--used that line in any sort of situation! I've certainly had the opportunity to deploy it in ages past, but...well, somehow it just never surfaces at the right time. It surfaces now, when I am far removed from both booze and objects of fondness.

Pretty Hate Machine was the only truly good NIN album. This is not open to debate: it is simple fact. True, Broken was pretty fly, too (especially the song "Last" and "Happiness in Slavery," which have, at various times in my life, been My Jam(tm)), and The Downward Spiral had several moments of brilliance ("Reptile" and "Mr. Self-Destruct")...but Trent verifiably peaked with his first damn release. That's kind of pathetic, but, man, PHM is just so friggin' good--not a single dull track in the entire collection. There are very few albums Out There that I can honestly say I will consistently listen to nonstop from start to finish, but PHM is definitely one of them. All the others are by New Wave acts or Skinny Puppy...and that kind of explains the appeal of NIN's initial offering: it sounds like a cross between New Wave synthpop (particularly Cabaret Voltaire and New Order) and Skinny Puppy's earlier stuff (a la Remission and maybe Rabies).

OK. Enough musical tomfoolery. I've work to do...and caffeine to ingest in order to make sure I don't end up face-down on my pile of papers, snorin' and droolin'.

Ohyeah, and:

I AM 51% GOTH!

Oh My Goth! You Goth, Girl. There is a good chance I am bi. Freakiness pumps through my viens, but I can still laugh at myself.

I'm surprised it's that high. The fact that I own Nosferatu fangs probably upped the percentage a bit....But I only ever wore them on Halloween, I SWEAR!

*Sigh* That score is...well, it's just too low for me. I'm sure you'll understand, but...perhaps we should just...you know. I can't let my reputation in the Goth Scene be ruined by...well.

(HAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHHA....Yeah, as IF!)

You know Derek, you scored higher than I did. Probably because I own neither a codpiece nor a set of fangs.

Musically-speaking, I'll agree that PHM was NIN's peak. However, from the perspective of texture and noise, my vote goes to the Downward Spiral or the Quake soundtrack.

And as for everything else, the fame went to his head.

Man, I had to totally nail my hand to my forehead to get this result . . . anyone got any tylenol?

I AM 100% GOTH!

24-7 I am a freak. Every day is halloween. The creatures of the night fear me.

Tylenol? To treat THAT amount of gothiness? Holmes, you need some straight-up MORPHINE!

Well, I wasn't trying to so much treat the gothiness as the pain from hitting my skull that hard. That much gothiness is pretty much beyond hope of treatment.

The best part is, you know how I got that result? Not by selecting the "expected responses" for the questions, oh no . . . that only yielded a 97%. No, how I got that result was to SELECT "I DON'T KNOW". For every single response. Thus proving that ultimately, total gothiness is brought about by COMPLETE AND UTTER LACK OF AWARENESS OF THE WORLD AROUND YOU. Hm, maybe that morphine would help afterall . . .

Hhahhahhahahhahahaha! I knew it. That actually makes a lot of sense, too, because all of the stonecold ubergoths *I* know are about as in touch with reality as Daffy Duck on a tryptamine bender. :)

This is now the 345968049586th time I've responded to your journal today, but...

I think you've inspired me to listen to PHM. The last time I heard it was a few weeks ago driving home from Florida and it was certainly a blast from the past.
