New Writings Journal Name
Apr. 26th, 2004 03:04 pmOK, folks--I don't have a clue how to make an actual poll on this sucker, so I'm just gonna throw names at you and let you comment on them.
The question of the hour is:
What should I call my new writings-only journal?
Here are the candidate names:
cemetery_mouth
senseless_violets
a_digital_orange
clockwork_bouquet
a_running_grave
untreated_wounds
suture_collage
goodnight_antarctica
the_sleeproom
replica_movement
manwhole_fever
passing_ghost
machine_stutter
or...
daily_misogyny
Hit me up with some suggestions, yo. I can't really settle on any of them. (Oh, and in case you didn't know: every one of them is some bizarre literary, Gary Numan, or Skinny Puppy referent...except for the last one.)

Date: 2004-04-26 09:28 pm (UTC)I think your suggestion wins simply because, a long time ago, Goodnight, Antarctica was the name of the first novel I started...inspired by the ending of John Carpenter's The Thing. Plus, it just sounds really cold and dark, since once you say "Goodnight, Antarctica," you won't be saying "Good morning" for six months.
And the Great Ones live there, too. How can you beat that?

Date: 2004-04-26 09:29 pm (UTC)I completely want to record a cover of it with, like, a karaoke version of a Britney Spears song as back groundf musique.
Oh gods, a chance to make up names!

I was reminded of....
Date: 2004-04-27 01:13 am (UTC)--The Weakerthans
Just one more drink and then I should be on my way home
I'm not enterely sure what your talking about
I've had a really nice time but my dogs need to be fed
I must say that in the right light you look like Shackleton
Comment allez-vous ce soir? Je suis comme ci comme ça
Yes, a penguin taught me French back in Antarctica
Oh, I could show you the way shadows colonize snow
Ice breaking up on the bay off the Lassiter coast
Light failing over the pole as every longitude leads
up to your frost bitten feet oh, you're very sweet
thank you for the flowers and the book by Derrida
But I must be getting back to dear Antarctica
Say, do you have a ship and a dozen able men
That maybe you could lend me?
Oh Antarctica
Oh Antarctica
Oh Antarctica
Oh Antarctica
My vote is obvious. *grins*

Date: 2004-04-27 02:13 am (UTC)machine_stutter makes me think of you, but I wouldn't call a writing journal "stutter"... if it were a normal LJ, yes, but you don't really want the idea of "stutter" connected to your writing, do you?
VOTES!
Date: 2004-04-27 03:43 am (UTC)if only because they are the least negative. calling the name something that is so negative at the get-go would really restrict what you might write. something open ended as far as the content but still evoking a kind of mood i like. the sleep room gives me the idea that you write these things before bed or after waking or only in your secret bedchambre or in fits of insomnia.
the replica movement brings to mind clones and robots and machines but also less abrasive ideas about music and reproduction/archiving and political aspirations and the send that Something Is Happening Involving All the Replicas. it still evokes a jab at your own work, calling it a copy of a real thing, rather than the original genuine idea... but then perhaps that's because the original that you retain has some extra element.. like that shitty Ninth Gate movie only this time its cool, mysterious.
ponies.
