The above photo has apparently been making the rounds on the intarweb. It's clearly a good example of Photoshopping--there's no way a human fetus' foot could protrude from a woman's stomach like that considering the inches of placenta, abdominal muscle and fat, and epidermis lying between the fetus and the surface of the skin--but, apparently, pro-lifers have been using it as a rallying point for their cause.

I don't exactly know what a protruding expression of a foot has to do with being pro-life or pro-choice, for that matter. I know that were I, personally, to observe such a thing protruding from a woman's already-disgusting gravid belly, I would probably shriek like a little girl and start hammering at it with an axe-handle. It reminds me of one too many scenes from Alien and many derivative films....

I don't understand why everyone's saying it has to be either a photoshop or real. I'd like to think that somebody took the time to make some cool special effects. I mean, christ, that's subtle, to say it's only possible if it's real or photoshop is like saying that the whole chestburster scene in Alien had to have been an actual alien killing John Hurt.

I thought about it being some form of simple (but effective) silicone prosthesis as well, but it's very unlikely: sad to say, there are VERY few people in the world today who would spend the time casting a prosthesis like that just for a picture when they can do it soooooooooo much more quickly in Photoshop. If it was a little more pronounced or there was, say, a hand in the pic as well or something similar, then I would consider it just as likely that it was a silicone prosthetic, perhaps a test shot for a makeup appliance to be used in a film or some FX artist's portfolio.

As it stands, though, I could whip up something very similar to that in PS in about five minutes. The "foot" impression is defined only by shadows in the picture, which can be EASILY added in PS without even having to pay attention to the light angles in the photo, which are very, very few.

That's the most disgusting picture I've ever seen. Ewwwwwwwwww!

You're right.. the muscle wall of the uterus is too strong to allow for the baby's foot to show through, as if it were right on the other side of her skin.

If I were even slightly inclined to become a mother one day, this picture would be enough to convince me NOT to!!

Yeah. That's what gets me: this is a rather *creepy* photograph, if you think about it. And, yet, pro-lifers are seemingly flocking to it as though it were some kind of ad for "the miracle of birth." Were *I* a woman, and were I to witness an appendage of some grotesque fetal beast thrusting up against my skin, I'd lose my mind. It's like something from a friggin' Lovecraft story!
