The American Legion is Unamerican
Aug. 26th, 2005 05:24 pmIn today's What The Fuck Department, we have the American Legion calling for an end to public protests against the current "war effort."
No, they're not calling for people to just cut it out or drop it already. They're calling for active opposition. I quote:
"The American Legion will stand against anyone and
any group that would demoralize our troops, or worse, endanger their
lives by encouraging terrorists to continue their cowardly attacks
against freedom-loving peoples," Thomas Cadmus, national commander,
told delegates at the group's national convention in Honolulu.
The delegates voted to use whatever means necessary to "ensure the united
backing of the American people to support our troops and the global war
on terrorism."
In his speech, Cadmus declared: "It would be tragic if
the freedoms our veterans fought so valiantly to protect would be used
against their successors today as they battle terrorists bent on our
destruction.”
Yeah, asshole...it would be tragic if the freedoms you veterans fought for would be denied to Americans you just don't happen to agree with. Nice double standard, there, American Legion. The next time local Legion asks me to donate for ANY volunteer programs whatsoever they might be sponsoring, I'm going to hand them an anti-Bush, anti-war pamphlet and tell them to call me back after they read the fucking Constitution again.
