Now, the last time Mister Robertson made the news was several months ago when he called for the assassination of some South American dictator Hugo Chavez in the name of God and Liberty, or some such nonsense. Now, I am a firm believer that assassination of enemy leaders is always an option--and oftimes a fairly smart one--yet, at the same time, I do not slather my simple utilitarian amorality with a facade of religious justification.
But this is even better: Pat Robertson has warned the citizens of Dover, PA, that God will basically ignore them from now on because they ousted the intelligent-design idiots from their school board. HYSTERICAL! Witness:
"I’d like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don’t turn to God, you just rejected him from your city."
Oh, no! People of Dover, be wary! Somehow, by exercising your democratic rights as American citizens to vote out public servants whom you don't believe are doing their jobs properly, you have also summarily excised the Notorious G. O. D. Himself from your town and you know what that means! No more divine protection from volcanoes, pestilence, meteors, demoniac possession, homosexuality and Harry Potter for YOUR little town of heathen jackassery and sodomitical decadence!
Pat Robertson, thou beest the Grandest of All American Hypocrites, thou cleft-tongued doubletalker thou. On the one hand--usually when some Republican exemplar has won an election or proposed a piece of doomed moral-majority legislation--you proclaim to the highest the God-given grandeur of the American democratic system that allows citizens to speak out in favor of right-thinking, right-living, Right-handed righteous leaders. But you sure as quick to denounce and complain about that same system when it coughs up an unfavorable response, aren't you, there, bucko? Hey, I do it, too: EVERYONE does it--we all like to complain about elections and leaders when they do something we don't agree with...but how many of us routinely warn American citizens that YHWH, the Man Upstairs, the Great Perhaps, Mister Fiction Himself has "withdrawn his hand of protection" from them because we've exercised our democratic right to make our opinions heard? I'm no great fan of democracy myself, but...christ, even I don't go around damning people or threatening them with Gomorrahization for a SCHOOL BOARD VOTE.
When the Glorious Regime of New Traditionalism fully takes over, there's going to be a special oven in Far Right KZ Atlanta for you, my friend....
