Drive recovery cost = $2502.
My mother had to put the fucking cost on her credit card, because mine is still fucked up and I have $120 to my name. I asked if they had a payment plan, but they don't. Great.
Way to feel useless, Pegritz.
The good news: Penn State's picked me up for a class next semester, and Cal U has--so far--offered me two Comp I's. They may very well offer me more, since they are still adding sections as more and more students register. I'm going to have to work my usual hours at the newspaper, too, just so I can make enough money to pay for all this shit.
Looks like another semester of 14-to-16-hour days.
To make sure this fucking shit never happens again, I'm investing in two 300+ gig drives to use as backups. I currently have two 100gb internal SATA drives in my computer: one is my system drive, the other is a backup drive to which Norton Ghost copies the complete contents of C: every night. I also back up the complete contents of C: to my server box as well.
I'm going to put a 500gb Ultra ATA into my server box, too, as a further hedge. So, basically, I'm going to spend another $500 on drives for backup purposes--but spending $500 in the short term to avoid another $2500 for fucking drive recovery only makes sense. Every single fucking bit of data I have is going to backed up at least 3 times in a number of different locations and different media. Including, of course, DVD+R.
Jesus.
