I just got the soundtrack to my new favorite novel, Jeff Noon's Needle in the Groove, and I must say....it's bloody amazing. Trancey, dancey, dubbed out, totally feathered up on the sampleside--it's got excellent electronic atmospherics, bitchin' weird ambient noises, and Jeff Noon himself reading extracts from the novel. It's freakin' amazing. Totally freaked out and it's entirely futuristic yet grounded in a strange contemporary attitude, heaped up with bass, scratchy vinyl crackle, and a heapin' dose of Manchester darkness squeezing Northern England cold wet mechanics through the speakers into my face.
arvin, take note, O my brother--you must score this. Score this and the novel.
