God told me to.
Oct. 7th, 2005 11:34 amY'all may be wondering why I, the rabid anti-religionist, haven't been jumping all over the news circulating now that George Bush told some Palestinian guy that The Big G told him to invade Afghanistan, etc. Simply put: the story is probably blown completely out of proportion.
Oh, I have no doubt Bushy von Dummshittenstein thinks he's on a mission from God, as though he were some kind of black sheep on the Blues Brothers' family tree. But, really...the statement that he supposedly said this appears in a BBC documentary, being voiced by a Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister who even admits that he didn't take it seriously--he figured Bushy was just speaking figuratively, and, quite frankly, he probably was. Bush is a fucking moron, sure, but something tells me he's not going to be scuttling around the world telling people that the Lord instructed him to specifically help their people--that would completely impugn our national image, and I don't think even HE is that stupid.
So...the supposed statement is clearly secondhand, delivered by a fellow who admits he thought the president was just speaking figuratively, and it's not like Bush has been running around thumping a Bible in people's faces. In other words: until he specifically says something that stupid, and it appears in a relatively reliable source, I'm not going to break out the whips and lasers.
